New syllabus for Rajyaseva Prelims has been introduced from 2013. Here it is : New Syllabus
[For MPSC Rajyaseva Prelims 2011 – Study Plan- ClickHERE]
This following plan was for Prelims 2010 so do not get confused. Click on the above link for Prelims 2011 exam Plan.
This study plan is for candidates who have not yet started their preparation.
Actual Time Available For Preparation: 61 Days (1st March 2010 to 30th Apr 2010) + 7 Days (1st May 2010 to 7th May 2010)
After a careful research of the previous years question papers, I have listed the following subjects/topics that were given importance in the question papers. The number of days allotted are according to the trend of the subject/topic in the question papers.
Total Subjects/Topics to be Prepared: – 10
- Vidhnyan and Abhiyantriki (Science and Technology)
- Vaanijya and Arthvyavastha (Commerce and Economics)
- Bhugol (Geography)
- Krushi (Agriculture)
- Bhartiya Rajyapaddhati (Indian Polity)
- Jagtik Ghadamodi (Current Affairs – National and International)
- Buddhimapan (Mental Ability)
- Itihaas (History)
- Samaj Sudharak (Social Reformers)
- Gram Prashasan (Village Administration – Local Administration)
Since there is a lot to study in these 2 months time period, you must read carefully every subject/topic, within this limited period. You cannot afford to take everything at once and start reading. Neither can you study multiple subject everyday else you will mix up everything. The best strategy is to take up one subject and study carefully, finish it and then take another subject. This way you will spend a number of days on one subject and cover every topic/sub-topic of that subject.
Following is a trend of asking questions on specific subject/topics. The following table shows the numbers of questions were asked in 2008 and 2009 MPSC State Services Prelims Examination.
| SUBJECT/TOPIC | 2009 | 2008 | ||
| Kala Ghatak (Art Subjects) | 49 | Distribution of Marks | 48 | Distribution of Marks |
| Itihaas (Modern History) | 05 | 07 | ||
| Bhugol (Geography) | 16 – India07- Maharashtra | 11 – India6 – Maharashtra | ||
| Samaj Sudharak | 7 | 8 | ||
| Bhartiya Rajyapaddhati (Indian Polity) | 11 | 11 | ||
| Gram Prashasan (Local Administration) | 3 | 5 | ||
| Vidhnyan & Abhiyantriki (S & T) | 30 | 26 | ||
| Vaanijya & Arthvyavastha (Comm & Econ) | 30 | 34 | ||
| KrushiGhatak (Agriculture) | 24 | 30 | ||
| JagtikGhadamodi (Current Affairs) | 17 | 12 | ||
| Buddhimapan(Mental Ability) | 50 | 50 | ||
| TOTAL QUESTIONS | 200 | 200 | ||
According to the above question trend, I have allotted number of days to each subject according to its importance in the examination. You should plan your study accordingly.
SUBJECT/TOPICS DAYS TO BE ALLOTTED FOR PREPARATION
- Vidhnyan and Abhiyantriki (Science and Technology) : 10 Days
- Vaanijya and Arthvyavastha (Com & Eco) :10 Days

- Gram Prashasan (Village Administration) : 5 Days
——————
Total number of days allotted for preparation: 61 Days
ALLOTMENT OF NUMBER OF DAYS FOR PREPARATION

During the above period while preparing, you must read carefully and make small notes on full-scale papers. Write in very small letters so that maximum notes can be written. You will need these notes for quick revision in May 2010. Do not write everything. You should read and understand everything and make very small (point-to-point notes) in 1 or 2 lines. Contact me for my own notes to see (scanned copies to show you how to make notes).
Final REVISION
1st May – 7th May should be for revising your subjects’ notes. You must utilize whole day for study since all main points needs to be read for a given subject/topic during the whole day.
| Date | Hours | Subject / Topic |
| 1st May 2010 | 16 | Kala Ghatak ( |
| 2nd May 2010 | 16 | Vidhnyan & Abhiyantriki Ghatak |

@Umesh, please check your email for complete details.
Dear Sir, How many howers study must in MPSC Sate Service Exam.
@Nana, excellent question. MPSC exams are tough so you must devote at least 1 year for the preparation. Everyday, you should be prepared to put in 12 hours, if you are not working. Else, minimum 5 -6 hours to be given if you are working person/student.
Respected Sir,
I am a software Eng. Working in Tata Institute of fundamental Research(TIFR) as a Project Assistant. From last few months i am thinking about MPSC and UPSC. But i am so confused as i am totally unaware about the pattern of both the exams. My all friends are in MNC Company, and in this month i also get selected in MNC Comp. with good package, but my real interest is in this field. Which of the above Exams (MPSC or UPSC) is good for me? Is it possible for condidate to work and prepare for exam simultaneously? if yes then how much time i have to give daily for preparation? I know it a quit long process to get position in administation of Govnt from this exams, but how many years we have to work for that? i am 26 year old and also married person. Please replay, i am humbly waiting for your replay.
Thanks and regards,
Prabhakar R.Dumbre
@Prabhakar, yes, of course you can prepare for MPSC/UPSC while working at your current job. I am here to assist you till you achieve your goal. Please don’t get confused, read every post on this blog to understand what MPSC/UPSC exams are and what they contain. OK?
You need to choose 2 optional subjects (common to MPSC/UPSC), compare the syllabus and if you feel that there is huge difference then you should go for MPSC first and later on you can go for UPSC because of the competition level as well as limited time available with you for preparation, right?
Make lists of books required for each subject and collect the study material. Plan your study; and to plan it, you may wish to book my manual MPSC Success Mantra – The Complete Manual.

sir, are there any jobs available in mpsc equivalent to ias cadre plz letme know, r there any seprate set of books\ magazines to refer in mpsc besides upsc?
@Sameer, the jobs are somewhat similar but the officers selected by UPSC serve at national level and those by MPSC serve within Maharashtra. For example; To assist IAS, there is Dy. Collecter and to assist IPS, there is Dy. SP. Please read all magazines mentioned on this blog. Yes, few extra books will be needed for MPSC, please read the list of books posts. You will need my manual: MPSC Success Mantra – The Complete Manual: https://anilmd.wordpress.com/mpsc-rajyaseva-main-exam/mpsc-success-mantra-the-complete-manual/
sir,
what is the diffrence between mpsc and upsc exams? plz tellme
@Sameer, MPSC Prelims doesn’t have optional paper and MPSC Mains doesn’t have Essay paper. To appear in MPSC State Services, you must know Marathi language. The exam pattern is almost same for both exams except the above. There are some differences in syllabus so you need to compare it for MPSC and UPSC. The officers selected by UPSC serve all over India but those selected by MPSC serve within Maharashtra.
