Build Your Dream, But Do Not Let It Slip Away

An article dedicated to all aspirants of MPSC & UPSC Civil Services Exams

Each of us carries a unique dream — a quiet whisper in the heart, urging us to rise, to strive, and to achieve something meaningful. For many, the dream of becoming a civil servant — an officer who leads with purpose, integrity, and compassion — is not just a personal ambition, but a mission to serve the people and transform society. But in this long, demanding journey of preparation, a dream can be built slowly and also be lost silently. Therefore, build your dream, but do not let it slip away.

1. Know Why You Started:
Before anything else, ask yourself: Why did I choose this path? The Civil Services is not just a job — it’s a lifestyle of service and leadership. Keeping this “why” close to your heart will keep you grounded when distractions, doubts, or delays try to blur your focus. When the nights feel long and the pages overwhelming, let your purpose remind you of your dream.

2. Build Daily, Brick by Brick:
A castle isn’t built overnight, nor is a successful attempt at the UPSC or MPSC exam. Your daily actions — reading a chapter, writing a mock answer, revising polity or solving CSAT questions — are the bricks. You must lay each one with care and consistency. Even on your worst days, do a little — because little by little becomes a lot.

3. Beware the Thieves of Time and Motivation:
Dreams often slip away not because of lack of talent, but due to subtle habits: procrastination, scrolling endlessly, overthinking, or even comparing your journey to others’. These are dream-thieves. Be mindful of how you spend your minutes — they shape your months.

4. Surround Yourself with Fire:
A burning desire fades if surrounded by negativity. Be with people who uplift you — mentors, fellow aspirants, or even a motivational book. Follow those who remind you of what’s possible. If you must walk alone, carry fire within — in the form of self-belief and positive discipline.

5. Rebuild When It Falls:
You may fail Prelims. You may struggle in Mains. You may face personal losses or health issues. But never forget: even if the structure crumbles, the dream remains. Rebuild it. Stronger. Smarter. Wiser. Civil Services is not just a test of knowledge — it’s a test of resilience.

6. Visualise the Victory:
Every morning, close your eyes and see your name in the list. Picture yourself walking into the Tehsildar’s or District Collector’s office or taking the oath. Feel the pride of your parents, the joy of your village, the respect of your peers. This vision will energise you more than coffee or compliments ever could.

7. Give It Everything — And Then Some:
The dream is worth it. So, give it your early mornings and your late nights. Sacrifice temporary comforts for permanent impact. Let your preparation become a sacred practice. Because when you give it everything, success becomes inevitable.

A Final Word to Every Aspirant:
You are not just preparing for a career. You are preparing to become a torchbearer of change. Your dream is not just personal — it’s national. It belongs to the people who will one day benefit from your decisions, your fairness, your service.

So build your dream like an architect. And guard it like a warrior.
Let it grow, but never let it go.

Jai Hind.

Written with heart, for all the brave minds chasing the dream of the MPSC & UPSC Civil Services.
